Phenoxymethylpenicillin (also called Penicillin V) is an antibiotic that works by killing bacteria responsible for infections. It stops bacteria from building their protective walls, which causes them to die off.

Adults usually take 250 mg to 500 mg (1 to 2 tablets) every 6 hours, meaning 4 times a day. Take it on an empty stomach — at least 30 minutes before food or 2 hours after eating — so your body absorbs it better. Swallow with a full glass of water and complete the entire course your doctor or pharmacist prescribed, even if you feel better.
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. But if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed one and continue your normal schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for the one you missed.
