Antifungals and antibiotics for vaginal thrush and bacterial vaginosis
Thrush (a yeast infection) and bacterial vaginosis have different causes and need different treatments: see a pharmacist to identify which one you have
Frequent recurring infections can signal an underlying condition like diabetes, worth checking with a doctor
When to see a doctor
Seek care if you notice any of the following
- You have severe abdominal pain or cramping that does not go away with pain relief medication.
- You have heavy or prolonged bleeding from the vagina that soaks more than one pad or tampon per hour.
- You have a fever over 38°C (100.4°F) that lasts for more than 2 days.
- You have a strong, unpleasant smell from the vagina that does not go away with treatment.
- You are experiencing difficulty breathing or swallowing due to a severe allergic reaction to medication.
For guidance only: always consult a qualified healthcare provider.
