Antiprotozoal drugs for trichomoniasis (trich)

A common, curable parasitic infection, but it passes back and forth between partners if only one is treated

Avoid alcohol while taking metronidazole or tinidazole, as the combination causes severe nausea and vomiting

When to see a doctor

Seek care if you notice any of the following

  • You have severe abdominal pain that does not go away with pain relief medication.
  • You experience heavy bleeding or spotting between periods that lasts for more than 2 weeks.
  • You have a fever over 38°C (100.4°F) that lasts for more than 3 days.
  • You notice a foul-smelling discharge from your vagina that is yellow or green in color.
  • You have difficulty breathing or chest pain that gets worse when you cough.
