When to see a doctor

Seek care if you notice any of the following

  • If your blood sugar levels are consistently above 300mg/dL, even after taking your medication, go see a doctor soon. This could be a sign that your treatment plan needs to be adjusted.
  • If you experience numbness, tingling, or weakness in your hands or feet, go to your doctor as soon as possible. This could be a sign of nerve damage due to high blood sugar levels.
  • If you have a fever over 38°C (100.4°F) that lasts for more than 2 days, go to your nearest clinic or hospital. This could be a sign of an infection that needs prompt treatment.
  • If you notice dark, velvety patches on your skin, especially on your neck, armpits, or groin area, go see a doctor soon. This could be a sign of insulin resistance or type 2 diabetes.
