Glucagon is an injectable hormone that works by telling your liver to release stored sugar (glucose) into your blood, quickly raising dangerously low blood sugar levels back to normal.
Binds to glucagon receptors on hepatic and muscle cells, activating adenylyl cyclase and increasing intracellular cAMP to promote glycogenolysis and gluconeogenesis, thereby raising blood glucose levels in hypoglycemic states.

This is NOT a tablet — it is an injection given under the skin, into the muscle, or into a vein. For severe low blood sugar in adults: inject 1 mg (the full kit). Available in Nigeria as GlucaGen HypoKit 1 mg. You must mix the powder with the liquid provided just before injecting. A family member or caregiver should learn how to give this injection in case of emergency. Once the person wakes up, give them something sugary to eat or drink immediately.
Glucagon is used only in emergencies for dangerously low blood sugar — it is not a regular daily medication, so a missed dose does not apply. If a diabetic person collapses from low blood sugar, use it right away and call for medical help.
Only buy GlucaGen HypoKit from licensed pharmacies — never from roadside sellers, as it must be properly stored to work. Make sure your family members or close friends know how to mix and inject it before an emergency happens. After using glucagon, always go to a hospital or clinic — it is a temporary fix, not a cure.
Warfarin (blood-thinning medicine): glucagon can increase its blood-thinning effect, raising risk of bleeding. Insulin and diabetes tablets: glucagon works against these drugs temporarily, so blood sugar management may need adjustment afterward. Beta-blockers (heart/blood pressure medicines like propranolol): may reduce how well glucagon works and also hide signs of low blood sugar.

Glucagon has been used in pregnancy emergencies and does not appear to cross the placenta easily, but always consult your doctor — use it only when the benefit clearly outweighs any risk during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
Store the unmixed kit in a refrigerator (2°C to 8°C) if possible, but it can be kept at room temperature below 25°C before the expiry date. Do not freeze it. Keep it away from direct sunlight and heat — this is important in hot Nigerian weather. Once mixed with the liquid, use it immediately and throw away any leftover. Keep out of reach of children.
