Flumox 500 mg Capsules

Who is this for?

This is a combination antibiotic containing two types of penicillin — amoxicillin and flucloxacillin — that work together to kill a wider range of bacteria than either one alone. You may know it by the brand name Flumox in Nigeria.

Inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis by binding to penicillin-binding proteins and preventing peptidoglycan cross-linking; flucloxacillin provides enhanced beta-lactamase resistance against staphylococcal strains that produce penicillinase enzymes.

Is Amoxicillin; safe to take with another drug?

Adults usually take 1 capsule of Flumox 500 mg three times a day (morning, afternoon, and night). It works best when taken on an empty stomach — about 1 hour before food or 2 hours after eating. Swallow the capsule whole with a full glass of water. Always complete the full course your doctor or pharmacist prescribed, even if you feel better.

If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. But if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed one and continue your normal schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for the one you missed.

• stomach pain or bloating

Avoid taking this drug at the same time as methotrexate (used for arthritis or cancer) as it can increase side effects. If you are on blood-thinning medicine like warfarin, this antibiotic can increase bleeding risk — let your doctor know. Oral contraceptives (birth control pills) may become less effective while taking this antibiotic, so use additional protection.

Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and heat — Nigerian weather can be very hot, so avoid leaving it in your car or near a window. If you reconstituted the suspension (mixed the powder with water), keep it in the refrigerator and use it within 7-14 days. Always keep out of reach of children.
