Who is this for?

This is a combination antibiotic that pairs amoxicillin (which kills bacteria) with clavulanic acid (which stops bacteria from defending themselves against the amoxicillin). Together, they work as a stronger team to fight infections that regular amoxicillin alone cannot handle.

Inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis by binding to penicillin-binding proteins and preventing peptidoglycan cross-linking; clavulanic acid irreversibly inhibits bacterial beta-lactamases, preventing enzymatic degradation of amoxicillin and restoring its efficacy against resistant organisms.

Is Amoxicillin safe to take with another drug?

For adults, the usual dose is one 625 mg tablet twice or three times daily, or one 1000 mg (1G) tablet twice daily depending on how serious the infection is. Always take it with food or just before eating — this helps your stomach handle the medicine better and helps your body absorb it well. Swallow the tablet whole with a full glass of water. Complete the full course your pharmacist or doctor prescribed, even if you feel better after a few days.

If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. But if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed one and continue your normal schedule. Do not take two doses at once to make up for it.

• thrush (white patches in the mouth or vaginal itching)
• feeling bloated or gassy

Avoid taking it with blood-thinning drugs like warfarin without your doctor knowing, as it can increase your risk of bleeding. If you are taking methotrexate (used for arthritis or cancer), this drug can increase its side effects. It may reduce the effectiveness of birth control pills, so use an additional method like condoms during your course. Alcohol can worsen stomach side effects, so it is best to avoid drinking while on this medication.

Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and heat — Nigerian weather can be very hot, so avoid storing near windows or in your car. Keep the suspension (syrup) in the refrigerator after mixing and use it within 7 days. Always keep out of reach of children.
