Mefenamic acid is a painkiller and anti-inflammatory drug that works by blocking the chemicals in your body that cause pain, swelling, and fever. It is sold in Nigeria under brand names like Ponstan and Fenamex-DT.

Adults usually take one 500mg capsule or tablet three times a day, after food. Always take it with food or immediately after eating to protect your stomach. Do not use it for more than 7 days unless your doctor says so. Swallow the capsule whole with a full glass of water.
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember — but only if it is close to the time you would normally take it. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed one. Do not take two doses at once to make up for it.
Do not use this drug for more than 7 days without seeing a doctor — long-term use can damage your stomach and kidneys. Always buy from a registered pharmacy, not roadside vendors, to avoid fake or expired products. Do not combine it with other painkillers on your own — talk to a pharmacist first.
Avoid taking it with other painkillers like ibuprofen or diclofenac as this increases the risk of stomach bleeding. If you are on blood pressure drugs like lisinopril, mefenamic acid can reduce their effect. Avoid alcohol while taking this drug as it increases the chance of stomach irritation and bleeding.
