Desloratadine is an antihistamine that blocks a chemical called histamine in your body, which is what causes allergic reactions like sneezing, itching, and runny nose. It is a newer type of antihistamine that works without making you feel as sleepy as older ones.

Adults take one 5mg tablet once a day, with or without food. Swallow the tablet whole with water. You can take it at any time of day, but try to take it at the same time each day so you don't forget.
If you forget a dose, take it as soon as you remember. But if it's almost time for your next dose, just skip the missed one and continue as normal. Don't take two doses at once to make up for it.
Buy only from trusted pharmacies — avoid buying from roadside vendors or unregistered shops, as fake drugs are common. If your allergy symptoms don't improve after a few days of use, see a doctor. Do not take more than the recommended dose thinking it will work faster — it won't, and it may cause side effects.
Alcohol can increase drowsiness when taken with desloratadine, so avoid or limit drinking. Ketoconazole (antifungal commonly used in Nigeria) and erythromycin (antibiotic) may increase the level of desloratadine in your body — let your pharmacist know if you are taking these.
