Adults usually take 1 tablet two to three times daily, depending on the brand and strength your doctor prescribes. Take it with or after food to reduce stomach upset. Swallow the tablet whole with water — do not crush or chew. Follow your doctor's instructions carefully as the dose depends on the specific brand (e.g. Airomol, Fralif, Cikanol).
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. But if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed one and continue your normal schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for the one you missed.
Only buy from licensed pharmacies — brands like Airomol, Fralif, Cikanol, and Lifenol are registered in Nigeria, so avoid unregistered versions from roadside sellers. Do not increase your dose on your own even if you feel your breathing is not improving — see your doctor instead. This medicine works best when taken regularly as prescribed, not just when you feel symptoms.
Avoid drinking too much coffee, tea, or other caffeinated drinks as theophylline is similar to caffeine and can increase side effects like fast heartbeat and restlessness. Some antibiotics like erythromycin and ciprofloxacin can increase theophylline levels dangerously in your body — always tell your doctor what other medicines you are taking. Avoid alcohol as it can worsen side effects and affect how theophylline works.
