Who is this for?

This is a combination medicine containing two active ingredients — phenylephrine (a decongestant that shrinks swollen blood vessels in your nose to help you breathe better) and chlorphenamine (an antihistamine that stops sneezing, runny nose, and watery eyes). Together, they relieve cold and flu symptoms.

Is Phenylephrine safe to take with another drug?

Adults typically take 1 capsule every 4 to 6 hours as needed for cold symptoms, usually not more than 4 times a day. You can take it with or without food, but taking it with a little food may reduce stomach upset. Swallow capsules whole with water — do not crush or chew. Known in Nigeria as Cocoff, Colman Capsules, G. G. Cold Capsules, or Gonekold.

Since this medicine is usually taken only when you have symptoms, there is no strict schedule. If you are taking it regularly and miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed one — do not double up.

• Feeling sleepy or drowsy (very common — avoid driving after taking it)
• dry mouth
• slight dizziness
• mild headache
• feeling a bit restless or unable to settle

Avoid drinking alcohol while taking this medicine — it makes drowsiness much worse and can be dangerous. Do not take it together with other cold or flu medicines (like Actifed or other antihistamines) as you may double up on ingredients. If you are taking blood pressure medication, talk to your pharmacist first because phenylephrine can raise your blood pressure.

Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and heat — Nigerian weather can be very hot, so avoid leaving it in your car or near a window. Keep the pack tightly closed to protect from humidity. Always keep out of reach of children.
