Who is this for?
Nystatin is an antifungal medicine that works by killing fungus (yeast) infections, especially a type called Candida. It attacks the outer covering of the fungus cells, causing them to break apart and die.
Binds to ergosterol in fungal cell membranes, disrupting membrane integrity and causing leakage of cellular contents, leading to fungal cell death. Acts as a fungicidal agent effective against Candida species and other susceptible fungi.

For mouth thrush: Take 1-2 tablets (500,000 units each) 3 to 4 times a day, or use 1-2ml of the oral suspension — swish it around your mouth for as long as possible before swallowing. For skin infections: Apply the cream thinly to the affected area 2 to 3 times a day. Continue using it for at least 48 hours after the infection clears up to make sure it's fully gone. You can take nystatin with or without food.
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. But if it's almost time for your next dose, just skip the missed one and continue as normal. Don't double up to make up for a missed dose.
Always buy from a reputable pharmacy — brands like Kenstatin, Mystatin, or Biomestatine are well known in Nigeria. Complete the full course of treatment even if the infection looks like it has cleared, otherwise the fungus can come back stronger. Do not share your nystatin cream or oral suspension with another person, as their infection may be different and need a different treatment.
Nystatin mostly works locally (in the mouth, gut, or on the skin) and doesn't get absorbed much into the body, so it has very few drug interactions. However, inform your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking any other antifungal medicines. There is no major alcohol interaction, but it's generally wise to avoid alcohol when you are fighting an infection.

Nystatin is generally considered safe during pregnancy and breastfeeding when used as directed, but always consult your doctor before starting it.
Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and heat — Nigerian weather can be very hot, so avoid leaving it in cars or near windows. Keep the oral suspension bottle tightly closed. Store all forms away from children. Do not use after the expiry date on the pack.
