How to take this drug

For skin cream or lotion: Wash and dry the affected area, then apply a thin layer 2 times a day (morning and night) for 2 to 4 weeks. For oral gel (mouth thrush): Apply about half a teaspoon (2.5ml) to the affected area in your mouth 4 times a day, hold it in your mouth as long as possible before swallowing. Continue using for at least 7 days after symptoms clear.

What if I Miss a Dose?

If you forget to apply it, use it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next application, skip the missed one and continue as normal. Do not apply double the amount to make up for it.

What to watch out for

Complete the full course of treatment even if the infection looks like it has cleared — stopping early can make the fungus come back stronger. Buy only from reputable pharmacies and check for NAFDAC registration number on the pack, not from roadside sellers. Do not share your cream or medication with others even if they have a similar infection.

Severe allergic reaction such as swelling of the face

Drug Interactions

If you are taking warfarin (a blood-thinning medicine), miconazole can increase its effect and cause dangerous bleeding — inform your doctor. Miconazole oral gel can interact with some diabetes medicines like glibenclamide and cause your blood sugar to drop too low. Avoid using other antifungal creams on the same spot at the same time unless your doctor says so.

Pregnancy & Breastfeeding Warning

Consult your doctor before using miconazole if you are pregnant or breastfeeding — the cream may be used in pregnancy only if your doctor approves, and the oral gel should be used with caution.

Who Should NOT Take This

People who are allergic to miconazole or any other antifungal medicines in the same group (like clotrimazole or ketoconazole). Babies under 4 months old should not use the oral gel. People with liver problems should consult their doctor before using the oral gel form.

How to Store

Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and heat — Nigerian heat can spoil creams and gels quickly. Do not store in the bathroom where humidity is high. Keep the tube or container tightly closed and always keep it out of reach of children.
