Cough and cold combination medicine (antihistamine, decongestant, expectorant)
Brand of Ephedrine; Chlorphenamine; Ammonium chloride; Sodium citrate; Menthol
Last reviewed June 2026
Who is this for?
This is a combination cough and cold medicine that works in several ways — ephedrine opens up blocked airways, chlorphenamine stops allergic reactions like runny nose and sneezing, ammonium chloride helps loosen thick catarrh so you can cough it out, sodium citrate soothes irritated throat, and menthol gives a cooling feeling that eases breathing.
Activates α-adrenergic receptors causing nasal vasoconstriction to relieve congestion; blocks H1 histamine receptors to reduce sneezing and rhinorrhoea; increases mucus fluidity via expectorant action; and provides local analgesic and cooling effects via menthol, while ammonium chloride and sodium citrate help mobilize airway secretions.

Avoid drinking alcohol while taking this medicine as it will make the drowsiness much worse. Do not take it together with other cough and cold medicines as they may contain similar ingredients, leading to overdose.
