Who is this for?

Daclatasvir is an antiviral medicine that fights the hepatitis C virus by blocking a protein the virus needs to multiply in your body. It is usually taken together with another antiviral drug called sofosbuvir to clear the virus from your system.

Is Daclatasvir safe to take with another drug?

Take one 60mg tablet once a day, with or without food, at about the same time each day. It must be taken together with sofosbuvir (and sometimes ribavirin) as prescribed by your doctor — never take daclatasvir alone. Treatment usually lasts 12 weeks, but your doctor will tell you exactly how long. In Nigeria, it is available as Mydekla 60 Tablet.

If you miss a dose and it is less than 20 hours since you were supposed to take it, take it as soon as you remember. If it is more than 20 hours late, skip that dose and take the next one at your normal time. Do not take two tablets at once to make up for the missed dose.

• tiredness or feeling weak
• feeling sick or nauseous
• diarrhea or stomach upset

Do not take daclatasvir with certain TB drugs like rifampicin or certain HIV drugs like efavirenz, as they can reduce its effectiveness — always tell your doctor about all medicines you are taking. Avoid herbal remedies like St. John's wort as they can also make daclatasvir less effective. Amiodarone (a heart drug) combined with daclatasvir and sofosbuvir can cause dangerously slow heartbeat, so inform your doctor if you use any heart medication.

Store at room temperature, away from direct sunlight and heat — this is important in hot Nigerian weather. Keep the tablets in their original container, away from moisture and humidity. Always store out of reach of children.
