Who is this for?

Carbamazepine is a medicine that works by calming down overactive electrical signals in the brain, helping to prevent seizures (convulsions) and relieve certain types of nerve pain.

Is Carbamazepine safe to take with another drug?

Adults usually start with one 200 mg tablet taken twice daily (morning and night) with food to reduce stomach upset. Your doctor may gradually increase the dose to 400 mg two or three times daily depending on your condition. Swallow the tablet whole with water — do not crush controlled-release (CR) tablets. Always follow your doctor's specific instructions.

If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. But if it's almost time for your next dose, skip the missed one and continue your normal schedule. Never take two doses at once to make up for the one you missed.

• blurred or double vision
• unsteadiness when walking

Carbamazepine can reduce the effectiveness of birth control pills — use additional protection like condoms. Avoid drinking alcohol as it increases drowsiness and dizziness. It interacts with many drugs including some HIV medicines, blood thinners like warfarin, and other seizure medications — always tell your doctor or pharmacist about every medicine you are taking.

Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and heat — Nigerian weather can be very hot, so avoid leaving it in your car or near a window. Keep the tablets in their original container and far away from children.
