This is a combination supplement that contains calcium (as calcium carbonate) and Vitamin D, which work together to keep your bones strong — the Vitamin D helps your body absorb calcium properly so it actually gets into your bones and teeth.

For adults, the usual dose is 1 tablet once or twice daily, preferably taken with food to help your body absorb the calcium better. Swallow with water or chew if it is a chewable tablet. Your doctor or pharmacist may adjust your dose depending on how low your calcium or Vitamin D levels are. Popular brands in Nigeria include Cal D3 and Osteoplus tablets.
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. But if it is almost time for your next dose, just skip the missed one and continue your normal schedule. Do not take two tablets at once to make up for it.
Buy only from reputable pharmacies — avoid buying supplements from roadside vendors or unregistered shops as they may be fake or expired. Do not take more than the recommended dose thinking it will work faster, as too much calcium can cause serious kidney problems. If you are taking other medications, always tell your pharmacist so they can advise you on proper spacing.
Do not take this supplement at the same time as antibiotics like tetracycline or ciprofloxacin — calcium blocks their absorption, so take them at least 2 hours apart. Iron supplements should also be taken separately, at least 2 hours before or after. If you are taking blood pressure drugs like amlodipine or other heart medications, inform your doctor before starting this supplement.
