Budesonide comes in different forms — as an inhaler, nebuliser solution (like Pulmicort Nebulising Suspension), nasal spray, or capsules. For asthma via nebuliser, the usual adult dose is 1-2mg twice daily. For nasal spray, it is usually 1-2 sprays in each nostril once or twice daily. Always follow your doctor's specific instructions. For the inhaler or nebuliser, rinse your mouth with water after each use to prevent mouth sores.
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. But if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed one and continue your normal schedule. Do not double up to make up for a missed dose.
Do not stop using budesonide suddenly, especially if you have been using it for a long time — your doctor needs to reduce the dose gradually. Always buy Pulmicort or budesonide from a licensed pharmacy, not from roadside sellers or unverified online shops. If you are using the inhaler or nebuliser, always rinse your mouth after use to prevent mouth infections.
Avoid taking with ketoconazole or itraconazole (antifungal drugs commonly used in Nigeria) as they can increase budesonide levels in your body and cause more side effects. Grapefruit juice can also increase the drug's effect — avoid drinking it while on budesonide. If you are taking HIV medicines like ritonavir, tell your doctor as they can interact.
