Acetazolamide is a medicine that works by reducing the amount of fluid your body produces in certain areas like the eyes and brain — it does this by blocking an enzyme called carbonic anhydrase, which helps control fluid and acid balance in your body.

For glaucoma, the usual adult dose is 250 mg (1 tablet) taken 1 to 4 times daily, as your doctor prescribes. For epilepsy, 250 mg to 1000 mg daily in divided doses. Take it with food or a full glass of water to reduce stomach upset. Follow your doctor's exact instructions — dosing depends on your condition.
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. But if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed one and continue your regular schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for the one you missed.

Drink plenty of water while taking this drug to reduce the risk of kidney stones.
