Abiraterone acetate is a cancer drug that works by blocking your body from making male hormones (like testosterone) that help prostate cancer grow, essentially starving the cancer of the fuel it needs to spread.
Inhibits 17α-hydroxylase/17,20-lyase (CYP17A1) enzyme in the adrenal glands and testes, blocking the conversion of pregnenolone and progesterone to DHEA and androstenediol, thereby reducing testosterone synthesis and slowing androgen-dependent prostate cancer growth.
Advanced prostate cancer (cancer of the male reproductive gland), especially when the cancer has spread to other parts of the body or is no longer responding to other hormone treatments
