Tinidazole is an antibiotic and antiparasitic drug that works by killing certain bacteria and parasites in the body, stopping them from growing and multiplying.

For most infections, the adult dose is 2g (four 500mg tablets) taken as a single dose with food. For some infections like amoeba, your doctor may ask you to take 2g once daily for 3 to 5 days. Always take it with food to reduce stomach upset. Swallow the tablets whole with a full glass of water.
Since tinidazole is often taken as a single dose, missing it is uncommon. If your doctor prescribed it for multiple days and you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed one — do not double up.
Important for antibiotics
Always complete the full course even if you feel better. Stopping early can cause the infection to return and become drug-resistant.
Do NOT drink alcohol while taking tinidazole and for at least 3 days after finishing it — mixing them can cause severe nausea, vomiting, stomach cramps and headache. Tinidazole can increase the effect of blood thinners like warfarin, increasing the risk of bleeding. If you are taking lithium or phenytoin (for seizures), let your doctor know as tinidazole can affect their levels in your blood.

Tinidazole is not safe during the first three months of pregnancy and should be used with caution during breastfeeding — always consult your doctor before taking it if you are pregnant or nursing.
Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and heat — Nigerian weather can be very hot, so avoid leaving it in your car or near windows. Keep it in its original pack and away from children.
