Usually one tablet (15 mg or 30 mg) taken once a day, with or without food. Your doctor may increase it to 45 mg once daily depending on how your blood sugar responds. Swallow the tablet whole with water. Try to take it at the same time every day so you don't forget.
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember that same day. If it is already close to the time for your next dose, skip the missed one and continue your normal schedule. Do not take two tablets at once to make up for it.
Only buy pioglitazone from licensed pharmacies — brands like Piogista or Pionorm 30 — and avoid roadside or unregistered sellers as fake diabetes drugs are dangerous. This medicine works gradually, so do not stop taking it because you feel fine — your blood sugar may still need control. Monitor your blood sugar regularly as your doctor advises and report any unusual swelling or sudden weight gain immediately.
Insulin or other diabetes medicines like glimepiride — taking them together with pioglitazone can cause your blood sugar to drop too low, so your doctor needs to adjust the dose. Some herbal remedies and traditional medicines can also affect blood sugar unpredictably, so tell your doctor about anything else you are taking. Alcohol can make blood sugar control harder and should be limited.
