Monoclonal Anti Rho-D Immunoglobulin (sold as Rhoclone 300 mcg in Nigeria) is an injection that contains special protective proteins designed to prevent a Rhesus-negative mother's body from attacking her baby's Rhesus-positive blood cells. This stops her immune system from forming harmful antibodies that could affect future pregnancies.
Binds to fetal red blood cells expressing the D antigen, coating them and promoting their removal by the reticuloendothelial system before maternal anti-D antibodies can be formed, thereby preventing maternal alloimmunization and subsequent haemolytic disease of the fetus and newborn in future pregnancies.
