Topical counterirritant and decongestant
Brand of Menthol; Turpentine Oil; Camphor; Eucalyptus Oil; Thymol; Nutmeg Oil
Last reviewed June 2026
Who is this for?
This is a topical rub (balm) made from a combination of menthol, camphor, eucalyptus oil, turpentine oil, thymol, and nutmeg oil that works by producing a warming and cooling sensation on the skin, which helps open up blocked airways and relieve muscle aches.
Activates TRPM8 and TRPA1 cold-sensitive receptors on sensory nerve endings, producing a cooling sensation that masks pain and promotes local vasodilation and mucus clearance. Additionally, these volatile compounds act as mild local anesthetics and antimicrobial agents, reducing congestion and providing symptomatic relief in upper respiratory and musculoskeletal conditions.

This is not taken by mouth — it is applied on the skin. Rub a small amount on your chest, throat, and back up to 3 times a day for congestion. For body or muscle pain, gently massage a small amount onto the affected area. You can also add a small scoop to hot water and inhale the steam for blocked nose.
Since this is used as needed for relief, there is no strict dosing schedule. Simply apply it whenever you feel the symptoms like blocked nose or body pain. Do not apply too much at once.
This product is for external use only — never swallow it or put it inside your nose or mouth. Buy from reputable pharmacies and look for trusted brands like Leopard Vapour Rub to avoid fake products. Keep far from fire or naked flames as some of the oils in this rub are flammable.
Do not apply on broken skin or open wounds as it can cause intense burning and irritation. Avoid using alongside other medicated balms or heat patches on the same area to prevent skin burns. If you are using any prescription skin cream, ask your pharmacist before combining.

Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and heat. Keep the container tightly closed after use. Store well out of reach of children — the pleasant smell can tempt children to taste it, which is very dangerous.
