Insulin degludec (sold as Tresiba FlexTouch in Nigeria) is a long-acting insulin injection that helps control blood sugar levels by working slowly and steadily in your body for up to 42 hours, mimicking the natural insulin your body should produce.
Binds to insulin receptors on muscle, adipose, and hepatic cells, activating tyrosine kinase signalling pathways that increase glucose uptake and glycogen synthesis whilst inhibiting gluconeogenesis and lipolysis. Forms multi-hexamers in subcutaneous tissue, providing a stable, peakless release profile that maintains prolonged hyperglycaemic control for up to 42 hours.

It is given as an injection under the skin (usually in the thigh, upper arm, or belly area) once daily at any time of the day. Your doctor will tell you your exact dose based on your blood sugar levels. You can take it with or without food. Rotate your injection site each time to avoid skin problems.
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember, then go back to your normal once-daily schedule. Make sure there is at least 8 hours between two doses. Do not take a double dose to make up for the one you missed.
Always buy Tresiba FlexTouch from a reputable pharmacy that stores it properly in a refrigerator — never buy insulin from roadside sellers or open markets, as heat can destroy it. Learn to recognize signs of low blood sugar (shaking, sweating, confusion) and always carry sugar, glucose sweets, or a sugary drink with you. Keep it away from direct sunlight and heat, which is very important in Nigeria's hot weather. Always keep it out of children's reach and do not use it if the liquid looks cloudy or has particles.
