Who is this for?
Enoxaparin sodium is a blood-thinning injection that helps prevent and treat blood clots by reducing the blood's ability to clot. It belongs to a group called low molecular weight heparins and works by blocking certain clotting factors in your blood.
Binds to and potentiates antithrombin III, which inhibits Factor Xa and Factor IIa (thrombin) in the coagulation cascade, thereby preventing thrombus formation and propagation.

This is given as an injection under the skin (usually in the belly area), not into a muscle. Your doctor or nurse will usually give it to you. For prevention of blood clots after surgery, the usual dose is 40 mg (one injection) once daily. For treatment of existing blood clots, the dose is usually 1 mg per kg of your body weight every 12 hours. Do not try to inject yourself unless a healthcare professional has trained you on how to do it properly.
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed one and continue your regular schedule. Do not double up on doses. Contact your doctor or nurse if you are unsure what to do.
Only buy enoxaparin from reputable pharmacies — never from roadside vendors or unregistered sellers, as this injection must be properly stored to remain effective. Do not inject yourself unless you have been properly trained by a nurse or doctor. Report any unusual bruising, bleeding, or dark-colored stool to your doctor immediately.
Avoid taking aspirin, ibuprofen, or diclofenac (Voltaren) while on enoxaparin unless your doctor says so, as these increase the risk of bleeding. Warfarin and other blood thinners should not be combined with enoxaparin without medical supervision. Herbal supplements like ginger, garlic, and ginkgo in large amounts may also increase bleeding risk. Alcohol can worsen bleeding and should be avoided or limited.

Enoxaparin does not cross the placenta easily and is sometimes used in pregnancy under strict medical supervision, but you must never use it without your doctor's approval — consult your doctor if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding.
Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and heat — Nigerian weather can be very hot, so avoid leaving it on windowsills or in cars. Do not freeze it. Keep it in its original packaging and well out of reach of children.
