For high blood pressure, most adults start with one 5mg tablet taken once daily. Your doctor may increase this to 10-40mg per day, taken once or split into two doses. You can take it with or without food, but try to take it at the same time each day. Envas 10 is a common brand in Nigeria.
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. But if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed one and continue your normal schedule. Do not take two tablets at once to make up for it.
This is a prescription medicine — do not buy from roadside sellers or use someone else's blood pressure tablets, as the wrong dose can be dangerous. Do not stop taking it suddenly because you feel fine; high blood pressure often has no symptoms but still damages your body. If you develop a persistent dry cough, tell your doctor — they may switch you to a different medicine.
Avoid using potassium supplements or salt substitutes that contain potassium while on this drug, as it can cause dangerously high potassium levels. NSAIDs like ibuprofen (commonly sold in Nigeria) can reduce how well enalapril works and may harm your kidneys. Alcohol can increase the blood pressure-lowering effect and make you feel very dizzy or faint.
