How it works

Inhibits sodium-glucose cotransporter-2 (SGLT2) in the renal proximal tubule to increase urinary glucose excretion, while simultaneously inhibiting dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) to increase incretin levels and enhance insulin secretion in response to meals.

How to take this drug

Take one tablet once daily in the morning, with or without food. Swallow the tablet whole with water. Your doctor will decide whether you need the 10 mg/5 mg or 25 mg/5 mg strength based on your blood sugar levels. Do not crush or chew the tablet.

What if I Miss a Dose?

If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember on the same day. If it is already close to your next dose time, skip the missed one and take your next dose as normal. Never take two tablets at once to make up for a missed dose.

What to watch out for

Only buy from licensed pharmacies — avoid roadside sellers or unregistered medicine shops, as fake diabetes medicines are dangerous. Drink plenty of water throughout the day, especially in hot Nigerian weather, because this medicine increases urination and can cause dehydration. Serious Side Effects

or feeling very weak — especially in hot weather. A rare but serious condition called diabetic ketoacidosis which causes nausea
vomiting
stomach pain
unusual tiredness
and fruity-smelling breath — go to the hospital immediately. Severe joint pain or blistering skin rash also needs urgent medical attention.

Drug Interactions

Insulin or other diabetes medicines like glimepiride can cause dangerously low blood sugar when combined with this drug — your doctor may need to reduce the dose. Diuretics (water tablets like furosemide) can increase the risk of dehydration and low blood pressure. Alcohol can worsen blood sugar control and increase dehydration risk, so limit your intake.
