Who is this for?
Emicizumab (sold as Hemlibra in Nigeria) is an injection that helps your blood clot properly by acting as a bridge between clotting factors, mimicking what a natural clotting protein (Factor VIII) does in people whose bodies cannot make enough of it.
Bridges Factor IXa and Factor X by binding to both simultaneously, creating a functional bypass of missing Factor VIII and restoring the intrinsic tenase complex to enable normal thrombin generation and hemostasis in haemophilia A.

If you miss your scheduled injection by a day or less, take it as soon as you remember, then go back to your regular schedule. If you miss it by more than a day, skip the missed dose and take the next one at your regular time. Do not inject two doses at once. Talk to your doctor if you are unsure.
This is a very specialised and expensive medicine, so only get it from a trusted hospital pharmacy or certified supplier, never from roadside vendors or unverified sources. Do not share this medication with anyone else, even if they also have a bleeding disorder. Always ensure proper cold storage, and if the drug has been left in heat for too long, do not use it.
Activated prothrombin complex concentrates (aPCC, such as FEIBA) can greatly increase the risk of dangerous blood clots when used with emicizumab and must be carefully managed by your doctor. Other Factor VIII bypass agents should also be used with extreme caution. Always tell your doctor about every medication you are taking, including supplements.

The safety of emicizumab during pregnancy and breastfeeding is not well established, so consult your doctor before using it if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding.
Store in a refrigerator (2°C to 8°C), which is very important in Nigeria's hot climate. Do not freeze it. If needed, you can keep it at room temperature (below 30°C) for up to 7 days, but once removed from the fridge, use it within that time or throw it away. Keep away from direct sunlight and out of reach of children.
