Who is this for?

Cyproheptadine is an antihistamine that blocks a chemical called histamine in your body, which helps relieve allergic reactions. It also stimulates appetite, which is why many Nigerians know it as an 'appetite booster.'

Is Cyproheptadine safe to take with another drug?

Adults usually take one 4 mg tablet 3 times a day, but your doctor may adjust this. You can take it with or without food, but taking it with food can reduce stomach upset. Because it can make you very sleepy, many people prefer to take it at night or avoid driving after taking it.

If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. But if it's almost time for your next dose, just skip the missed one and continue as normal. Don't take a double dose to make up for it.

• mild stomach upset

Avoid drinking alcohol while taking cyproheptadine as it will make the drowsiness much worse. Do not combine with other antihistamines like chlorpheniramine (Piriton) as this doubles the sedating effect. Be careful if you are taking sedatives or sleeping tablets, as the combined effect can be dangerous.

Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and heat — Nigerian weather can be hot, so avoid leaving it in your car or near a window. Keep the container tightly closed and always store out of reach of children.
