Combination — Steroid, Antifungal, and Antibiotic (topical)
Brand of Betamethasone; Tolnaftate; Gentamicin
Last reviewed June 2026
Who is this for?
This is a combination cream that contains three active ingredients: Betamethasone (a steroid that reduces swelling, redness, and itching), Tolnaftate (an antifungal that kills fungus on the skin), and Gentamicin (an antibiotic that fights bacterial infections on the skin). Together, they treat skin conditions where infection, fungus, and inflammation are all present.
Inhibits fungal ergosterol synthesis (tolnaftate), suppresses inflammatory response via glucocorticoid receptor activation (betamethasone), and inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by binding to the 30S ribosomal subunit (gentamicin), providing combined antifungal, anti-inflammatory, and antimicrobial activity.

Apply a thin layer of the cream to the affected area of skin 2 to 3 times daily. Gently rub it in. Wash and dry the area before applying. Do not cover with a tight bandage unless your doctor says so. Use for the number of days your doctor or pharmacist recommends — usually not more than 2 weeks.
If you forget to apply the cream, apply it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next application, skip the missed one and continue as normal. Do not apply double the amount to make up for the one you missed.
Important for antibiotics
Always complete the full course even if you feel better. Stopping early can cause the infection to return and become drug-resistant.
Do not use this cream longer than your doctor or pharmacist recommends — using steroid creams for too long can permanently damage your skin. Buy only from trusted pharmacies — products like Clonex A Cream and Norbatex Cream should come in proper sealed packaging. Do not use this cream as a bleaching or skin-lightening product, as some people in Nigeria misuse steroid creams this way, which can cause serious long-term skin damage.
Avoid using other steroid creams or medicated creams on the same area at the same time, as this can increase side effects. If you are using any other skin product — including local herbal preparations — tell your pharmacist before using this cream. There are no major food or alcohol interactions since this is a topical cream, but alcohol-based lotions on the same area may cause irritation.

Pregnant and breastfeeding women should not use this cream without consulting a doctor first, as the steroid component can potentially affect the baby, especially if used over large areas or for a long time.
