Topical corticosteroid with antibiotic
Last reviewed July 2026
Who is this for?
This is a combination cream that contains a steroid (beclomethasone) to reduce swelling and itching, an antibiotic (neomycin) to fight skin infections caused by bacteria, and a preservative (chlorocresol) to keep the cream safe for use. It works by calming inflamed skin while treating or preventing infection at the same time.
Binds to glucocorticoid receptors in the cytoplasm, translocating to the nucleus to suppress pro-inflammatory cytokine production and inhibit phospholipase A2, while neomycin inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by binding to the 30S ribosomal subunit, and chlorocresol provides additional antimicrobial activity through cell membrane disruption.

If you forget to apply the cream, apply it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next application, just skip the missed one and continue as normal. Do not apply double the amount to make up for the missed dose.
Important for antibiotics
Always complete the full course even if you feel better. Stopping early can cause the infection to return and become drug-resistant.
Always buy Polyderm Cream from a reputable pharmacy, avoiding roadside sellers as the cream may have been stored in hot conditions and could be expired or fake. Do not use this cream longer than your doctor prescribed, as overuse of steroid creams can permanently damage your skin. Do not share this cream with others even if they have similar skin problems, as they need to see a doctor for their own prescription.
Avoid using other steroid creams or ointments on the same area at the same time as this can increase side effects. If you are taking any aminoglycoside antibiotics (like gentamicin injections), let your doctor know as neomycin belongs to the same family and combining them can increase the risk of side effects. Do not mix with other medicated creams unless your doctor approves.
