For adults, chew 1 to 2 tablets or take 1 to 2 teaspoonfuls (5-10 ml) of the suspension 3 to 4 times daily, usually taken between meals and at bedtime. Chew the tablets well before swallowing and follow with a glass of water. You can take it when you feel heartburn or as directed by your pharmacist.
Since this medicine is usually taken only when you have symptoms, there is no strict dosing schedule to worry about. If your doctor told you to take it regularly, just take the next dose when it is due — do not double up.
Buy only from reputable pharmacies — brands like Gestid, Galtrix, Aciguard, or Emtrisil are well known in Nigeria. Do not use this medicine continuously for more than 2 weeks without seeing a doctor, as ongoing stomach pain may be a sign of something more serious. If you are taking other medications, space them out from this antacid to avoid reducing their effectiveness.
This antacid can reduce the effectiveness of other medicines if taken at the same time — especially antibiotics like tetracycline and ciprofloxacin, and iron tablets. Take other medicines at least 2 hours before or after taking this antacid to avoid problems.
