Sulbacin 0.75 Injection

Who is this for?

Sultamicillin is a combination antibiotic that contains ampicillin (which kills bacteria) and sulbactam (which stops bacteria from defending themselves against the ampicillin). Together, they fight infections that ampicillin alone cannot handle.

Inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis by binding to penicillin-binding proteins and preventing peptidoglycan cross-linking; sulbactam irreversibly inhibits beta-lactamase enzymes, preventing antibiotic degradation and extending ampicillin's spectrum against resistant organisms.

Is Sultamicillin safe to take with another drug?

For adults, the usual dose is one 375mg tablet taken twice a day, or one 750mg tablet twice a day for more serious infections. Take it with or without food, but taking it with food can help reduce stomach upset. Swallow the tablet whole with a full glass of water and complete the entire course your doctor prescribed, even if you feel better.

If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. But if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed one and continue your normal schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for the one you missed.

Methotrexate (used for arthritis and some cancers) — this drug can become dangerously strong when combined with sultamicillin. Blood thinners like warfarin — sultamicillin can increase their effect and raise your risk of bleeding. Birth control pills — this antibiotic may reduce the effectiveness of contraceptive pills, so use extra protection during your course.

Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and heat — Nigerian weather can be very hot, so avoid leaving it near windows or in your car. Keep it in its original pack and far from the reach of children. For the injection form (like Sulbacin 0.75), follow your pharmacist's instructions on refrigeration.
