How it works

Activates beta-2 adrenergic receptors in bronchial smooth muscle, causing bronchodilation and improved airflow, while inhibiting phosphodiesterase to increase cyclic AMP levels for sustained bronchial relaxation. Blocks H1 histamine receptors to reduce allergic-mediated bronchoconstriction, mucus secretion, and inflammatory mediator release.

How to take this drug

Adults usually take 1 tablet two or three times daily. You can take it with or without food, but taking it with food can help reduce stomach upset. Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water. Follow your doctor's instructions on how long to use it.

What if I Miss a Dose?

If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. But if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed one and continue with your normal schedule. Do not take two doses at once to make up for it.

What to watch out for

Do not use this medicine to replace your inhaler during a severe asthma attack — if your breathing suddenly gets worse, seek emergency care. Drug Interactions

Avoid drinking coffee, kola nut, or other caffeine-containing drinks as they can increase the side effects of Theophylline like fast heartbeat and shakiness. Alcohol can make the drowsiness from Chlorphenamine much worse — avoid it. If you are taking medicines for high blood pressure (like propranolol or atenolol), they may reduce how well this drug works — inform your doctor.
