Who is this for?
Mycophenolate sodium is an immunosuppressant — a medicine that lowers your body's immune system so it does not attack a transplanted organ. It works by reducing the activity of certain white blood cells that would normally reject the new organ.
Inhibits inosine monophosphate dehydrogenase (IMPDH), preferentially blocking type II IMPDH in activated lymphocytes to suppress proliferation of T and B cells, thereby preventing allograft rejection.

The usual adult dose is 720 mg (two Myfortic 360 mg tablets) taken twice daily — morning and evening. Swallow the tablets whole with water; do not crush, chew, or break them. You can take it with or without food, but try to be consistent. Always take it exactly as your transplant doctor prescribed.
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. But if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed one and continue your normal schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for it.
This is a strictly prescription-only transplant medicine — never buy from roadside sellers or unverified pharmacies; always get it from a registered pharmacy with your doctor's prescription. Do not share this medicine with anyone, even if they also had a transplant, as the dose is personalised. Attend all your scheduled blood tests so your doctor can monitor your blood count and kidney function regularly.
Antacids containing magnesium or aluminium (like Gestid or Maalox) can reduce how well this drug works — take them at least 2 hours apart. Aciclovir or valaciclovir (used for herpes) can build up in the body when taken together. Do not take live vaccines while on this medicine as your immune system is too weak to handle them.

This medicine is NOT safe during pregnancy — it can cause miscarriage and serious birth defects. Women must use reliable contraception before, during, and for 6 weeks after stopping treatment, and breastfeeding is not recommended.
Store in a cool, dry place below 30°C — avoid direct sunlight and damp areas, which is important in Nigeria's hot and humid climate. Keep the tablets in their original blister pack until you are ready to take them. Always keep out of reach of children.
