Elicasal Ointment

Who is this for?

This is a combination skin ointment that contains a strong steroid (mometasone furoate) to reduce swelling, redness, and itching, along with salicylic acid which helps soften and remove thick, rough, or scaly skin so the steroid can work better underneath.

Binds to glucocorticoid receptors to suppress inflammatory cytokines and immune cell infiltration, while salicylic acid keratolytically dissolves intercellular lipids in the stratum corneum, enhancing penetration and efficacy of the corticosteroid in thick, scaly lesions.

Is Mometasone safe to take with another drug?

Apply a thin layer of the ointment (like Elicasal Ointment) to the affected skin area once or twice daily as directed by your doctor. Gently rub it in. Do not cover the area with a bandage or wrap unless your doctor tells you to. Wash your hands after applying unless you are treating your hands.

If you forget to apply the ointment, apply it as soon as you remember. But if it is almost time for your next application, just skip the missed one and continue your normal schedule. Do not apply double the amount to make up for it.

Avoid using other steroid creams or ointments on the same area at the same time, as this can increase side effects. Be cautious using other skin products that contain acids, alcohol, or peeling agents (like benzoyl peroxide) alongside this ointment, as they may cause extra irritation.

Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and heat — Nigerian weather can be very hot, so avoid leaving it on windowsills or in your car. Keep the cap tightly closed. Store out of the reach of children.
