Who is this for?

This is a combination vaginal cream or pessary (insert) that contains two medicines — metronidazole (which kills bacteria) and miconazole (which kills fungus/yeast). Together they treat mixed vaginal infections caused by both bacteria and fungus at the same time.

Inhibits bacterial DNA synthesis by intercalating into DNA strands and disrupting nucleic acid replication in anaerobes, while disrupting fungal cell membrane integrity by inhibiting ergosterol synthesis, effectively eliminating both bacterial and fungal pathogens responsible for mixed vaginal infections.

Is Metronidazole; safe to take with another drug?

For adults, insert one pessary or one applicator-full of cream deep into the vagina, usually once at bedtime for 7 to 14 days depending on your doctor's instruction. Wash your hands before and after use. It is best to use it at night so the medicine stays in place while you sleep. In Nigeria, you may find it sold as Drez V.

If you forget to insert a dose at bedtime, use it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed one and continue your regular schedule. Do not use double the amount to make up for a missed dose.

Avoid drinking alcohol while using this medication — metronidazole and alcohol together can cause serious nausea, vomiting, and stomach cramps. If you are taking warfarin (a blood thinner), tell your doctor as metronidazole can increase the risk of bleeding. Also inform your doctor if you use latex condoms or diaphragms, as the cream base can weaken them and reduce their effectiveness.

Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and heat — Nigerian weather can be very hot, so avoid leaving it in places like your car or near a window. Keep it below 25°C if possible and always keep it out of the reach of children.
