Topical corticosteroid and antibiotic combination
Brand of Methylprednisolone Acetate; Neomycin Sulfate
Last reviewed June 2026
Who is this for?
This is a combination medicine containing a steroid (methylprednisolone acetate) that reduces swelling and inflammation, and an antibiotic (neomycin sulfate) that fights bacterial infections on the skin. It is typically used as a topical preparation like a lotion or cream applied directly to the skin.
Binds to glucocorticoid receptors in the cytoplasm, translocating to the nucleus to suppress inflammatory gene expression and reduce cytokine production, while neomycin inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by binding to the 30S ribosomal subunit, effectively treating concurrent bacterial infection.

Apply a thin layer of the lotion (such as Neo Presol Lotion) to the affected area of skin 1 to 3 times daily, or as directed by your doctor. Gently rub it in. Do not cover the area with tight bandages unless your doctor tells you to. Wash your hands after applying unless you are treating your hands.
If you forget to apply it, use it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next application, skip the missed one and continue as normal. Do not apply double the amount to make up for the missed dose.
Important for antibiotics
Always complete the full course even if you feel better. Stopping early can cause the infection to return and become drug-resistant.
Do not use this medicine for longer than your doctor recommends — using steroid creams for too long can damage your skin permanently. Buy only from licensed pharmacies, not roadside sellers, to make sure you are getting the genuine Neo Presol Lotion. Do not share this medicine with others even if they have similar skin problems, as their condition may be different.
Avoid using other steroid creams or lotions on the same area at the same time, as this can increase side effects. If you are using other skin products like antifungal creams, ask your doctor or pharmacist before combining them. Let your doctor know if you are taking any other medicines, especially steroids by mouth or injection.
