Who is this for?

This is a combination drug containing four active ingredients: Isoniazid (fights tuberculosis bacteria), Pyridoxine/Vitamin B6 (protects your nerves from Isoniazid side effects), and Sulfamethoxazole with Trimethoprim — also known as Cotrimoxazole (an antibiotic that fights bacterial infections and prevents opportunistic infections). It is commonly used in people living with HIV/AIDS to prevent TB and other infections at the same time.

Inhibits bacterial mycobacterial and gram-negative DNA synthesis by blocking mycolic acid formation (isoniazid) and dihydrofolate reductase (trimethoprim and sulfamethoxazole), while pyridoxine serves as a cofactor for isoniazid metabolism and prevents peripheral neuropathy.

Is Isoniazid; safe to take with another drug?

Take as prescribed by your doctor — usually one tablet daily. Swallow with a full glass of water, and you can take it with or without food. Do not stop taking it even if you feel fine — your doctor will tell you when to stop.

If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. But if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed one and continue your normal schedule. Never take two doses at once to make up for the one you missed.

Avoid drinking alcohol while taking this drug — alcohol increases the risk of liver damage, especially from the Isoniazid component. If you are taking phenytoin (for seizures/convulsions), this drug can increase its levels dangerously. Warfarin (blood thinner) effects may be increased, so inform your doctor if you use it.

Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and heat — Nigerian weather can be very hot, so avoid storing near windows or in your car. Keep the container tightly closed and always out of reach of children.
