Who is this for?
This is a blood-building supplement that combines iron (ferrous gluconate), folic acid, and several B vitamins (B1, B2, B6, and B12) to help your body produce healthy red blood cells and prevent or treat anaemia.
Provides essential cofactors for erythropoiesis and haemoglobin synthesis: ferrous iron (Fe²⁺) serves as the central atom in haem and facilitates oxygen transport; folic acid and vitamins B1, B2, B6, and B12 function as coenzymes in nucleotide metabolism, amino acid metabolism, and myelin formation, collectively supporting red blood cell production and energy metabolism.

For adults, take one to two tablets or the recommended dose of syrup (like Detonic Syrup) once or twice daily, preferably with food to reduce stomach upset. Follow the dosage on the pack or as your pharmacist directs. Taking it with orange juice or vitamin C-rich foods helps your body absorb the iron better.
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. But if it is almost time for your next dose, just skip the missed one and continue as normal. Do not take a double dose to make up for it.
Buy only from trusted pharmacies — avoid roadside sellers, as fake blood tonics are common in Nigeria. Do not take more than the recommended dose thinking it will build your blood faster, as too much iron can be dangerous. If your tiredness or weakness does not improve after a few weeks, see a doctor for a proper blood test.
Avoid taking this drug at the same time as antacids (like aluminium or magnesium-based stomach medicines) or tetracycline antibiotics, as they reduce iron absorption — space them at least 2 hours apart. Tea and coffee can also reduce how well your body absorbs the iron, so avoid drinking them close to when you take your dose.
Check your specific combination
Is it safe to take Ferrous with your other drugs?
This combination is generally considered safe and is often recommended during pregnancy and breastfeeding to prevent anaemia, but always confirm the right dosage with your doctor or midwife.
Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and heat — Nigerian weather can be very hot, so avoid leaving it on windowsills or inside cars. Keep the container tightly closed and always store out of reach of children.
