Venoactive drug (Flavonoid / Vein-strengthening agent)
Brand of Diosmin; Hesperidin
Last reviewed June 2026
Who is this for?
Diosmin and Hesperidin is a combination of two natural plant-based substances (called flavonoids) that strengthen blood vessel walls and improve blood flow, especially in your veins, helping to reduce swelling and inflammation in your legs and around your anus.
Strengthens venous endothelial integrity and reduces capillary fragility by inhibiting inflammatory mediators (TNF-α, bradykinin) and decreasing vascular permeability, while improving lymphatic drainage and microcirculation. Enhances venoarteriolar reflex response and increases red blood cell deformability, promoting venous return and reducing venous stasis in chronic venous insufficiency.

For heavy or swollen legs: Take 2 tablets of Daflon 500 mg daily — one at midday and one in the evening with meals, or one Daflon 1000 mg tablet once daily. For pile (haemorrhoids) during a flare-up: Take 6 tablets of Daflon 500 mg daily for the first 4 days (3 tablets at lunch and 3 at dinner), then reduce to 4 tablets daily for the next 3 days (2 at lunch and 2 at dinner). After the flare-up, continue with 2 tablets daily. Always take with food to reduce stomach upset.
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed one and continue your normal schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for it.
Always buy from a reputable pharmacy — make sure you are getting genuine Daflon, not fake products from roadside sellers. This drug works best alongside lifestyle changes like elevating your legs, avoiding standing for too long, and eating more fibre to prevent pile. If your symptoms do not improve after a few weeks of use, see your doctor rather than just increasing the dose on your own.
Diosmin may increase the effects of blood-thinning drugs like warfarin, so inform your doctor if you are on blood thinners. It may also interact with some blood pressure medications. There are no major known interactions with alcohol, but it is best to limit alcohol as it can worsen vein problems and pile symptoms.
