This is a combination medicine containing two active ingredients — candesartan (which relaxes blood vessels) and hydrochlorothiazide (a 'water tablet' that helps your body get rid of extra salt and water). Together, they work to lower high blood pressure more effectively than either one alone.

Usually one tablet taken once daily, with or without food. Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water. Your doctor will decide the right strength for you — common combinations available in Nigeria include Atacand Plus (16/12.5 mg), Advantec (16/12.5 mg), and Candesartan/HCT Sandoz (8/12.5 mg). Try to take it at the same time every day so you don't forget.
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. But if it's almost time for your next dose, skip the missed one and continue as normal. Never take two tablets at once to make up for a missed dose.
Only buy from licensed pharmacies — avoid roadside sellers or open market drugs, as fake blood pressure medicines are common in Nigeria. Do not stop taking this medicine because you feel fine — high blood pressure often has no symptoms but can cause stroke or heart attack if untreated. Drink enough water, especially during hot weather or if you are fasting, as this medicine can cause dehydration.
Avoid taking this medicine with potassium supplements or potassium-rich salt substitutes, as it can cause dangerous changes in your potassium levels. NSAIDs like ibuprofen (commonly sold as Ibalgin or Brufen in Nigeria) can reduce the blood pressure-lowering effect and harm your kidneys. Drinking alcohol can increase dizziness and make your blood pressure drop too low.

This medicine is NOT safe during pregnancy — it can seriously harm or even kill your unborn baby, especially in the second and third trimesters. If you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding, stop taking it and see your doctor immediately.
Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and heat — Nigerian weather can be very hot, so avoid leaving it in your car or near a window. Keep the tablets in their original pack and always store out of reach of children.
