How to take this drug

Always take with food to reduce stomach upset. For high prolactin problems, start with half a tablet (1.25 mg) at bedtime, then gradually increase to 1 tablet (2.5 mg) two or three times daily as your doctor directs. To stop breast milk, the usual dose is 1 tablet (2.5 mg) twice daily for 14 days. Your doctor will adjust your dose slowly — do not rush to increase it yourself.

What if I Miss a Dose?

If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember — but if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed one and continue your normal schedule. Do not take two doses at once to make up for the missed one.

What to watch out for

This is a prescription-only medicine — do not buy from roadside sellers or open market vendors as counterfeit versions are dangerous. Bromocriptine can make you dizzy, so be careful when driving okada, keke, or any vehicle especially when you first start taking it. Always follow your doctor's dosing schedule exactly and attend follow-up appointments so your prolactin levels or condition can be monitored properly.

Drug Interactions

Avoid alcohol as it can worsen dizziness and nausea significantly. Do not take with erythromycin or ketoconazole (common antibiotics and antifungals in Nigeria) as they can dangerously increase bromocriptine levels in your blood. Blood pressure medicines may cause your pressure to drop too low when combined with bromocriptine.

Pregnancy & Breastfeeding Warning

Bromocriptine is not safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding unless your doctor specifically prescribes it — stop taking it and inform your doctor immediately if you suspect you are pregnant.

People allergic to bromocriptine or ergot-type medicines
