Who is this for?

Bilastine is an antihistamine that blocks the chemical (histamine) your body releases during an allergic reaction, helping to stop sneezing, itching, and swelling without making you as drowsy as older allergy medicines.

Blocks H1 histamine receptors on mast cells and basophils, preventing histamine-mediated allergic responses including vasodilation, increased vascular permeability, and pruritus. Demonstrates selective peripheral H1-receptor antagonism with minimal central nervous system penetration due to poor blood-brain barrier crossing.

Is Bilastine safe to take with another drug?

Take one 20 mg tablet (e.g. Bilaxten 20 mg) once a day. It should be taken on an empty stomach — at least one hour before or two hours after eating — because food reduces how well it works. Swallow with water.

If you forget a dose, take it as soon as you remember. But if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed one and continue your normal schedule. Do not take two tablets at once to make up for it.

Avoid taking bilastine with fruit juice (especially grapefruit or orange juice) as it reduces how well the drug works — use only water. Alcohol can increase drowsiness, so avoid drinking beer, palm wine, or spirits while on this medicine. Be careful if you are also taking ketoconazole (antifungal) or erythromycin (antibiotic) as they can increase bilastine levels in your body.

Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and heat — Nigeria's hot weather can damage medicines. Keep the tablets in their original pack and far out of reach of children.
